Let Yourself In or Out.
Someone’s gonna keep on trying to come in. It’s a state of mind. It’s reality as you see fit. It’s in every shade of blue you can imagine. Someone’s always knocking on your door. Sometimes it is for the better and then, sometimes its your own self trying to knock the door down. When it is your own self, it is usually an attempt that easily results in vain. I am talking about filling in the space of your consciousness.
“It is about a deep feeling inside…it is how we are with the world and everything in it…how we pull and give energy to others…it is about our core and our goodness.” someone once answered my question of what spirituality is. What sayeth you?
Being startled awake just an hour after having fallen asleep by nothing, at least nothing you can think of, you find yourself putting on your robe clutching to your glass of water from your nightstand descending the stairs. You sit in front of the dormant television wondering what kind of comfort there really could be from the tube. Habit. You mutter to yourself in thought. It is all the television is; habit. The remote control is in your hand…yes, out of habit. The television sits there waiting for you to turn it on. You decide to do something different. You choose silence. You sit there with the remote control in your hand staring at the dormant television screen. Then, your eyes start to move across the wall. You realize the life of your living room has nothing to do with your television. Pictures of frozen memories, a handmade vase you bought at an estate sale, a couple of plants you have been keeping alive, a hearty bookshelf with books that have helped you on your journey, and air that mysteriously bonds everything together without making everything look glued together.
Gratitude slowly enters your mind. You sigh deeply and realize a mental circle of panic roused you awake and your body just has a knack of joining your head for the celebration. The body is talked into doing things easily. There are some thoughts you just have to let through sometimes like a rude driver that will not let you in front of them and you want to just jam right into them. Then, there would be no peace. Clearly, a solution would not be reached. Sometimes a good course of silent treatment can make for a wonderful cure. Throwing in a few drops of gratitude, you realize you do not want your usual shot of scotch or plain whiskey. Gratitude is searing the mind with the intention to only invite light in. It gets dark at night and when you close your eyes. You can close your eyes anytime you like, so why make it dark when your eyes are open. You blink your eyes all the time, so you always have a little interaction with darkness.
As for us, there are so many unturned stones. I will turn one over now. Animals exist mainly for us. We keep them for pets, eat livestock, make money off them, and coo at them whenever we “have time” or “want” to. Do we realize that they really exist for us even on a spectacular plane of being? The animals stand in their own variety of astounding individualism for reasons beyond our typical mental comprehension. They carry messages and want so bad to give them out. What do we do? Put ‘em in a cage or in front of a gun; BANG! Well, guess who the joke is really on. To be continued… sometime soon, hopefully, all I need is a good push further down that stream of “consciousness”. The good news about this is that everything is really relative. Just let silence kick in.
